3 productivity tips I learned the hard way!

We often tend to underestimate our own potential and capabilities. "I wish I could be like you; wake up to exercise at 5:00 am every morning and start the day on the best possible note!”, I told a colleague of mine about a month ago. A full month later, my colleague still wakes up at 5 am, but I don’t. Nothin surprising there, since I did not make any effort to make it happen. I must have convinced myself not to, even though I am capable of starting my day at an early hour.

Still, this behavior does not apply to other aspects of my life, such as the startup world. When it comes to anything related to startups, I feel I function like a Swiss watch! Through my passion for delivering mentorship sessions or crafting partnerships, I simply make a commitment to myself to make it all happen. And it does! Wanna know how?

. I start by planning the week ahead before it even starts. I divide days of the week by themes. For example, I commit Sundays for follow ups, Mondays for new learnings and readings, Tuesdays for calls, and so on. One of my favorite tools to map the week out is Trello. Just give it a try if you are a visual person like I am!

. Then, I map out, in big titles, what I want to work on during each day. Is Monday the right day to read different articles, get inspired and draft my blog accordingly? Should I work on posts instead? Or should I set @WE's weekly social calendar based on what I learned?

. Day by day, I refer to my calendar for which tasks I must work on and solely focus on those for the entire day. I train myself to ignore any distractions and, instead, focus on the work at hand. I make sure to curb distracting thoughts about anything else that isn’t urgent!

By following these simple habits, I learned to become more organized and focused. Establishing such a discipline did not happen overnight either; it took me months of practice and lifestyle alternations. Oh, not to forget the never-ending episodes of stress and anxiety, which initiated this drive in the first place! Now, whenever I catch myself stressing over a task, I remind myself that I have set a clear plan to achieve the best results, and I'd better stick to it! With all this, T got to become a firm believer that you, and only you, make things happen in your life!
